Serving to Increase Diabetes Awareness and Education in Madison County....
There are approximately 4,000 diabetics in Madison County, however, 1,500 don't even know they
are diabetic. Added to this, statistically there are another 6,000 who are pre-diabetic. The goal of
MCDA is to provide education and support to help prevent or delay the onset of diabetes or the
complications associated with diabetes.
A Little About What We Do.....
Education classes;
Weight loss support groups (open to all adults);
Diabetic screenings.
Why We Care....
There are approximately 26 million diabetics in the United States, with an additional 40-60 million
who are pre-diabetic. Diabetes is quickly becoming our health care epidemic. Unlike other diseases,
diabetes is a "hands on" disease and with the proper management, many diabetics and pre-diabetics
can help prevent or delay diabetes and/or the complications associated with diabetes.
Why You Should Care....
Diabetes is the 5th leading cause of death in Ohio, and the secondary cause of death in most heart
attacks and strokes. It is also the leading cause of blindness and amputations (outside of traumatic
events), kidney failure and neuropathy.
